Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook debuts for $899 in North America
Acer America today announced the North American availability of its first Ultrabook, the Acer Aspire S3-951. This featherweight Ultrabook powers on instantly, connects to the Web in seconds and provides up to 50 days of stand-by time, or 6 hours of continuous usage. As slim and easy to carry as a magazine, it includes a powerful Intel Core i5 Processor, speedy solid state drive for quickly booting the operating system, roomy hard drive, and essential USB and HDMI ports.

“The combination of extreme mobility and affordability found in the Acer Aspire S3-951 Ultrabook will undoubtedly change the way people think about mobile computing,” said Sumit Agnihotry, vice president of product marketing, Acer America. "Consumers are going to love the value they find in the freedom and capabilities it offers."

For Those who Hate to Wait
Like its inspiration, The Acer Aspire S3 Series was designed to be as light and quick as a hummingbird. With Acer’s Ultrabook, there is no need to waste time shutting down and restarting. It’s always ready in a flash for online browsing, instant messaging, social networking and other activities.

Acer’s Green Instant On Technology delivers ultra-fast responsiveness, resuming from Sleep mode in as little as 2 seconds1. The 20GB SSD6,7 drive stores the operating system and maintains the current PC’s state as it was when left unattended, so when the computer is awakened, web sites, emails or documents previously in use are instantly restored.

After 8 hours of inactivity, the Aspire S3 Series will enter Deep Sleep mode, from which it will resume in 6 seconds. The user can change this 8 hour default setting to 120 minutes, which is recommended for longer trips or periods of inactivity.

With these energy-conscious innovations, the battery life lasts up to 50 days – even longer than regular mobile phone batteries. All-day usability is delivered with an integrated long-life battery that delivers up to 6 hours of computing time5.

Acer’s Instant Connect Technology reconnects the Ultrabook to the Internet from Sleep mode in just 2.5 seconds2, four times faster than a conventional connection, enabling consumers to quickly access Instant Messaging, social networks and email immediately after the system comes “awake.”

You don’t have to be Rich to be Thin
Sporting an ultra-thin design and an MSRP of just $899, the Acer Aspire S3-951 is light in your briefcase and light on your wallet. Measuring just half-an-inch at its thinnest and weighing a mere 2.983 pounds, it’s as easy to carry as a magazine or file folder. Its overall dimensions are 12.59 inches by 8.52-inches by .51 to.68-inches, making it one of the thinnest notebooks available on the market.

The liberal use of magnesium aluminum/alloy contributes to the Aspire S3’s rigid frame while also keeping the system as light as possible. The aerodynamic design includes a metallic silver gray hairline finish, and a fingerprint-free finish on the lid that feels as smooth as silk. The 13.3-inch ultra-thin HD LED display uses an open cell design, integrating the display’s covers with the glass panel. This allows the lid and bezel to form a strong aluminum frame around the screen, and reduces the bezel thickness by about 10 percent (over traditional displays), creating a super-slim silhouette that is still strong enough to protect the display.

A seamless and uncluttered chassis, only a card reader and headphone connector are located on the left and right side; all the other connectors are located in the back, keeping the side profiles clean and sleek.

For user convenience, the power and battery status indicators are located on the outside corner, allowing them to be viewed even when the lid is closed. In addition, the power button is located above the keyboard underneath the LCD, so it’s easy to reach but won’t be accidentally pressed when the notebook is picked up and moved. A large multi-gesture touchpad and full size chiclet keyboard keeps the design simple and neat.

The Acer Aspire Ultrabook also includes numerous design elements that keep the system running cool and efficiently. All the heat generating components have been placed away from the palm rest and touchpad area, and warm air is funneled away from the user through the back of the Ultrabook. Venting throughout the keyboard also helps the system stay cool, and its vent-free bottom allows it to be used comfortably on a lap or pillow, without fear of obstructing air flow and overheating. In addition, airflow is optimized to enhance efficiency and lower power consumption to help increase system battery life.

Get the Job Done without being Weighed Down
Capturing the spirit of the hummingbird, the Aspire S3’s diminutive form belies its agility and prowess. It is among the thinnest and lightest, but is incredibly fast and powerful.

Featuring a 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5 Processor, Intel® HD Graphics 3000, 20GB7,8 solid state drive, 320GB7 hard drive, and 4GB of memory, the Aspire S3-951 Ultraportable is small, lightweight and easy to carry while still delivering the power needed for multimedia programs, CPU intensive programs and graphic intensive games. It is currently the only Ultrabook on the market to include both a solid state and hard disk drive.

Rock Out to Big Audio in a Small Package
Ideal for enjoying music, games or movies on-the-go or at home, the S3-951 includes professionally-tuned Dolby® Home Theater® v4, for vibrant, cinema-style surround sound and enhanced dialogue quality. Combined with its 13.3-inch HD Widescreen CineCrystal™ LED-backlit display featuring a 16:9 aspect ratio and a maximum resolution of 1366 x 788, it delivers sharp, rich high-definition visuals. It can be connected to an external monitor, projector or TV through a single cable via its HDMI port, so 1080p content can be enjoyed on a larger scale.

Share Photos, Update Social Networks and Video Chat -- Anytime, Anywhere
Acer Clear.fi makes it easy to stay in touch with friends and family, managing, storing, sharing and enjoying music, photos and videos between any Clear.fi enabled devices throughout a home or small office. In addition, they can also use it to connect to social networking sites, as clear.fi connects to feeds from Facebook™, videos on YouTube™ and images on flickr™. In addition, a 2-in-1 card reader that supports SD™ Card and MultiMediaCard™ formats make it easy to quickly and easily share data or download photos from their digital cameras.

For those who like to chat, video sessions are easy to set up and sound clear as a bell. The S3 Series includes Acer Video Conference Manager instant messaging software and a Crystal Eye 1.3 webcam that provides high-pixel density for amazing video image quality at 24 frames per second. Dual cameras make it easy to take high-definition still photos from either side of the Ultrabook.

For wireless connectivity at home or on the go, Acer InviLink™ Nplify™ 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ technology delivers reliable wireless connections wherever there’s a hotspot8. The Aspire S3 Series lets you cut down the clutter with Bluetooth® 4.0+ HSR technologies, the latest standard for quick short-range wireless file transfers.

Availability, Pricing
The Acer Aspire S3-951 Ultrabook will be available this week at leading online and retail outlets in the U.S. and Canada. It has a manufacturers suggested retail price of $899 (U.S. & CAN).

Future models to be announced will round out Acer’s Ultrabook line up, and will include Intel Core i7 or Core i3 Processors and larger capacity solid state drives.

The books 635-series is based on AMDs Fusion platform (chipset A50M) with an AMD CPU-240-E and the AMD HD 6310 integrated GPU. HP installed this equipment in a strong enough case that weighs 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds) including battery. A matte 15.6-inch 16:9 widescreen format sports a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. These bases are used for all models of 635 -.

The operating system will vary somewhat between different models or Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional or SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 is pre-installed. Case
The casings of the HP 635-are fairly standard for laptops with 15.6 inch screen, measures 247 x 376 x 32 mm (9.7 "x 14.8" x 1.26 "). The total weight of the laptop is 2500 grams (5.5 pounds), with the addition of a charger 240 grams (0.53 pounds). For colors, HP has opted for the black and copper, which gives the laptop a professional appearance.

These notebooks are made entirely of plastic. Their surfaces are deflected under the pressure quickly, and can be hidden in a deep almost everywhere. This can be seen with the lid, you can almost run through it, until something to block the transport.

The keyboard and palm rest area is much more robust, which is good, because they are more exposed to stress in daily use. The display frame is in the hands of two hinges with a tight grip. To open this screen, you must use both hands, otherwise the base will tilt the screen up.

The finish is surprisingly good at this price. Sometimes, the rustle of plastic, but can not find anything that could seriously diminish the value of the laptop. Parts of the walls still show a strong production of HP and placed where they belong. As a duck (Citroen 2 CV), an old French car in which everything fits, but audible chirps evoke shivering.

Connectivity
A question immediately comes to mind: If you have to accept disadvantages in relation to the connection on a laptop cheap 350 euros? Here LH416EA # ABD HP 635 responds with a clear no. All the connections you need for your daily work are provided.

Three USB-2.0-plug can be found on both sides, one on the left side and two on the back right side, then USB cables are not in the way of the mouse. For connection to external monitors, the HP 635 is both a HDMI and a VGA connector. A DVD burner is on the right side.

To the left is to plug a headset (one audio / mic, 1 audio output / headphone), an RJ45 network connector and a card reader for SD and MMC memory cards. Neither the front or the back of the HP 635 LH416EA # ABD has no outlet.

Display
The HP 635-series entry-level use 15.6-inch laptop with a diagonal of 39.6 cm. They are LED backlit and have a matte surface that creates almost no reflection.

The LCD can display a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels with the usual 16:09. With VGA and HDMI interface, additional monitors can be connected. Through HDMI, a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels possible. Through the VGA port, the maximum is "only" 2048 x 1536 pixels.

The combined operation with internal and external display is possible, you can clone the contents of the internal display screen connected, or stretch the desktop across two screens.

We measured a value of 1.33 cd/m2 black for the screen, resulting in a contrast of 149:1. The colors on the HD screen displays rich and look good. For a professional, however, the color space insufficient. As the images resulting from the ICC, the color space display does not even begin to match the reference area of different colors (Apple / Adobe / sRGB). It works well, because no one would expect to see professional graphics work on this laptop.

A gloomy picture, however, revealed a "bad-smiley-effect" (the first two corners and the entire lower area of the screen is not only light, but in reality, a strong work in grayscale. Office, which mostly use a light background, this effect is truly remarkable. Dark Pictures or video material, this can be a bit annoying though.

Outside, scores and matte screen is readable in direct sunlight. We took pictures with the sun high in the zenith, but our test video was easy to discern on the screen.

Seen from the front of direct sunlight, the colors and contrasts are easy to see. By moving the side view of the decline of these outdoor areas fast enough.

Viewing angles of 15.6-inch screen is surprisingly large, with 635 # ABD HP LH416EA for a laptop that costs only 350 euros. Display the test image on this panel could be the front and sides without any major loss. Only when the screen is tilted back or forward, the loss of contrast and color intensity. The visible image is reversed, say the fires quickly.

Performance
Although 635 LH416EA # ABD HP essentially made a good impression on the spot here, we could only shake our heads over the choice of CPU. AMD 1.5 GHz E-240 single-core processor does not support Hyper Threading, so there is not even a second virtual core to help the inner core with its handling chores. Consequently, the multitasking depends only on time slots. In addition, AMD also E-240 waives any turbo mode.

Radeon HD 6310 GPU and memory bus controller is integrated into the CPU. Processing power is approximately the same level as the Intel Atom N280 and Atom N450. The CPU core has access to 512 Kbytes L2 cache, an L3 cache is not present. The E-240 is manufactured using AMDs 40nm process and has a circulation of maximum power of 18 watts.

More information about AMD processors and comparative data with other single, double and quad-core can also look at large-scale databases.

Synchronization errors in the interfaces was not detected by our software DPC Latency Checker. As the display produced without measuring a red bar, so that no restrictions should be feared in the work audio / video.

We tested the performance of Maxon Cinebench CPU render, the R10 version (32/64 bit) and R11.5 (64-bit). Since the E-240 is a single-core processor, multi-core test was omitted. The CPU has reached 891 points Cinebench R10 (32 bit) and 988 points (64 bits). For Cinebench 11.5, we have found points to 0.26.

Thus, the E-240 accuracy outperforms Intel Atom N450/N470 and clean AMD C-50 APU. Even low-cost, entry-level line CPU Intel Celeron is much better than here.

PC Mark Vantage, HP 635 LH416EA # ABD place in the 1407 points, namely the level of performance the netbook Samsung NC210-A01DE NB550D or Toshiba. Running PC Mark 7 HP has brought 635 to 707 score points.

We currently have no value compared to other notbook using E-240 processor available. They recorded scores of reference are on average 15 percent less than the value of the E-350 1.6 GHz dual core processor used in Lenovo G575. Comparison of results PC Mark Vantage, 635 HP LH416EA # ABD Lenovo even further behind at -35.8%.

HP 635 uses HD 6310 GPU built into the CPU for graphics processing. For its lack of dedicated memory and performance that qualifies as an entry-level GPU. With RAM share the CPU with the GPU, only 1.6GByte 2 GB of RAM installed for use by the CPU. HD 6310 GPU is comparable to a GeForce 9400M or integrated Intel GMA HD older.

This is reflected in the benchmark video, where E-240 HD 6310 integrated CPU reaches 7380 points in 3D Mark 2001SE and 5339 points in 3D Mark 03 3D Mark 05 scores came in with 3299 points and 1971 points in 3DMark 06 has been shaken the last point reference in 3D Mark 11, 635 HP received 252 points, and the Radeon HD 6310.

To see how good or bad, these values are, we compared them with Lenovo G575-4383: The benchmark results. This 15.6-inch 1.6GHz notebook to use the E-350 dual-core integrated GPU with the same values to achieve the following parameters: 3D Mark 2001SE 8341 (+ 11.5% compared to 6310 E-240 HD) 3D Mark 03: 5665 (+11, 5%), 3D Mark 05: 3561 (+7.4%), 3D Mark 06: 1997 (+1.3%), 3D Mark 11: 275 (+ 8.4% ).

Compared to the GPU faster Intel HD 3000, HD 6310 in the E-240 seems very old. In almost all benchmarks, Intel HD 3000 is 44 percent faster. Just for 3DMark 11, Intel integrated HD-3000 went through, it is not compatible with DirectX 11.

With these benchmarks will not tell you how the work feels subjectively on a laptop. 635 # ABD HP LH416EA can be used transparently for office applications and Web browsing also works well.

Listen to music or watching movies should not be a problem either, but HD video pushing this combination CPU-GPU to the limit pretty quickly. 1080P MKV videos are displayed as a slide show, instead of 25/30 frames per second, gets about 10 pictures reproduced. With the noise in the background is FullHD video playback not available with the HP 635 # ABD LH416EA.

The motto of this computer is "trying to take it slow." Different applications running with the parking brake engaged, and if you load more programs, this effect is noticably increase.

Hitachi is a hard HTS723232A7A364 storage for this system that gives 320GByte with 16MByte cache and 7200 RPM. Measure the average transfer rate with HD Tune Pro scored only 66.7 MB / s. The rate broke managed 119.5 MB / s, with a relatively high CPU utilization of 19.2 percent.

Transfer rates are lower than expected values for the rotation of 7200 RPM hard, the results in more detail the same as the hard drive and 5400 RPM.

Game Performance
Playing games with the HP 635 LH416EA # ABD is limited. The graphics and GPU-intensive games or were unplayable or less pleasant. Wait an eternity, "Mafia II" For example, we found only 5 frames per second (fps). "FIFA 11" runs more than 55 fps in low resolution (800x600), but higher resolutions, the gameplay has dropped to zero. The launch of "3 Drift" has always been rewarded crash.

But many games pre-installed flash means you can use HP-635 as a gaming console anyway. More than 20 games in progress and 99% have installed the factory, after clicking the game icon, an automatic installation unpack the game and it can be played indefinitely. The selection consists of mind games, action games and simulations that work perfectly on material HP635.

Apple IPad Wi Fi And 3G

In this review, I will focus on the characteristics differentiating the 3G model. For an in depth look at all the features and options IPAD see our original review Apple iPad. And for more information, see our opinion of the iPad the most important as iBooks (free) and iWork ($ 9.99).

The iPad 3G is available in three capacities, each tacking on $ 130 in the same Wi-Fi only version, $ 629 (16GB), $ 729 (32GB) and $ 829 (64GB). The tablet is not locked to AT & T, but is the only U.S. carrier that supports the frequency bands of 3G IPAD. If you take a standard T-Mobile SIM card with an X-Acto knife, which is suitable for micro-SIM slot IPAD, and work, but you have a Wi-Fi + iPhone 2G, and can "t hit the 3G network T-Mobile. Basically, this is a device for AT & T in the U.S. alone

Apple IPad (Wi-Fi And 3G)
Apple IPad (Wi-Fi And 3G)
Virtually identical to its counterpart only Wi-Fi, 3G iPad looks a lot like a giant iPod Touch ($ 299, 32GB), with the exception of the rear brushed aluminum (the iPod touch is a shiny metal back). 3G model is a strip of black plastic at the top of the rear panel of the antenna to improve the 3G signal, and there is a small hole on the tablet, which issues cards MicroSim. The tablet 3G is slightly heavier, the weight of £ 1.6 (compared to Wi-Fi version is 1.5 pounds).

Apple has not released details on the IPAD A4 1 GHz processor, but several tests we conducted show that it works as an ARM Cortex A8-chip, similar to that used in the iPhone 3G ($ 199, 16 GB). Its only about 30 to 40 percent faster, which is what was expected, the 3G has a chip in the range 600 MHz and runs at 1GHz an iPad.

The energy efficiency of the chip as a result of a battery life Apple rates "up to ten hours," Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi mode, we have a battery life of 9 hours and 25 minutes. 3G modem performance without stopping, streaming video of TV TVU global application, which managed to win 8 hours 5 minutes, still very respectable.

The iPad (WiFi + 3G) begins with 802.11 b / g / n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and adds support for HSDPA 7.2 (850/1900/2100 MHz) and quad-band EDGE on AT & T and foreign networks with assisted GPS.

3G and GPS performance

Setting the iPad 3G network of AT & T is almost effortless, just go to Settings, then cellular data, select a service plan, and enter the details of your credit card. $ 30 unlimited plan to use the service pay the same amount of data you want to pay for the iPhone (which makes sense), but without the cumbersome two-year contract, to cancel or start the service at any time. There is also a no-contract service plan $ 14.99 that gives you a 250MB a month, but beware, it eats up to 250MB very quickly with this device. IPad Settings application allows you to monitor the use of data and warns you when youre short on data, so you can buy more. You can also use the 3G iPad abroad, at a time roaming add-ons, 20 MB of data runs $ 24.99 per month, 50MB is $ 59.99, 100 MB is $ 119.99, and 200 MB is $ 199.99. These prices, you should probably just go find a Wi-Fi hotspots.

IPad 3G managed a little faster than the speed of 3G iPhone 3G (199 dollars), side-by-side test using Speedtest.net App With the iPad, Im an average speed of about 1400 kilobits down and 180 kilobits up, yes, the photos were much slower than download. Both Google Maps and web browsing seems slower than the iPhone 3Gs iPad. The iPad is screen space to do so much more real that the page will take longer to fill in

Many applications work well over 3G. Netflix Movies have been visibly reduced in quality, but watchable. ABC TV was razor sharp, even in a window that covers only half of the screen. TVU player world of television has also been watchable. NPR Pandora and the music played very well. However, AT & T and Apple have restricted or cut the quality of some applications. Joost does not work on 3G. The YouTube videos are low quality seriously reduced. Talk2 Trufone Skype calls and not on 3G, or, so do not think about using your iPhone as a replacement for a smartphone.

IPAD sweeps performance GPS the iPhone 3G. The two are standing still and a moving bus, I got a GPS lock complete fast, and followed my position more clearly on the iPad. Sometimes, the iPhone was a full block behind me while the IPAD was there. If you could understand how to fit this monster in your car, it might be a heck of a navigation system. (Wi-Fi only IPAD, of course, has no GPS, though sometimes it can determine your location based on nearby Wi-Fi hotspots).

A 3G or not 3G?

If youre already sold on the idea of the iPhone, the big question is whether to pay $ 130 more for the 3G version. If you spend much time on trains, or youre a road warrior who is traveling with an iPhone instead of a laptop, 3G model would make more sense for you. Also, if you want to use your Tablet PC for GPS, 3G will version. But most people, the additional cost is difficult to justify unless it can be seen clearly when and where to use 3G in place. Wi-Fi

Once again, the iPad is in your heart, not a mobile device. In fact, when I took to the streets of New York was difficult cradled in the arms and reflective LCD screen is much more difficult to read in bright sunlight the screen of the iPhone. When seated, a real device pocket is much more convenient.

Most of the places you want to use iPad a friends house, home, office or coffee shop, already has Wi-Fi, or are likely to cover the $ 7.95 a month Boingo Wi-Fi hotspot subscription. Boingo has thousands of hotels, bars, airports and other public places under its authority.

But if you really whipping IPAD see in places where there is Wi-Fi, there are ways to get more flexible online high 3G. Verizon Wireless is running a deal where if you buy a Palm Pre ($ 149.99) can be used as a wireless access point at no extra cost. Given that you still need a smart phone anyway, which makes the Palm Pre and Wi-Fi iPad only an excellent combination. T-Mobile HD2 ($ 199.99), smart phones iPhone connect to the Internet, too.

Mobile routers such as Sprint or Novatel MiFi Overdrive is more expensive than the iPad AT & T subscription, but they can connect up to five units at a time. If you travel with a two iPad, a laptop, this may be the best solution. We review your best options in a recent story about how you use your Wi-Fi iPad with any operator.

More reviews of the Tranquilty Zone SPI Laptop desk with Light

"I highly recommend this laptop desk! The price is right and the quality is superb! I shopped a long time before I found this perfect lapdesk at such a good buy! I use this comfy laptop desk a lot for working with my laptop and writing. It has great ergonomic comfort and has saved me the neckaches and backaches I used to have leaning over tables and stationary desks. The light is really bright and easy to adjust to the perfect angle for any work. When not in use, the light easily folds out of your way. I love this product! Thanks!!!"

"Love the laptop desk for my laptop. Fits my lap and is not too heavy. The lamp is the right light for darkness, not too bright, not too dim. I use it every evening to browse the net or to eat dinner in front of the TV. I have enjoyed my laptop desk with light since I got it and I would definantly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a lapdesk."

"I bought this desk for my mother who had some surgery on her leg and needed to keep it elevated in the evenings. This laptop desk was perfect. It was small enough to not be obtrusive, the light was a great bonus and it was comfortable. She uses it to write letters on as well to read and do a few crafty projects. She loves having the extra light as well. If you need a portable laptop desk to do things while you watch tv, its perfect! "

"Good product. My daughter, 10, likes it but the only downside is there is no storage for pens/pencils. Seems durable...hasnt broken so far!"

When only the price taken into account, perhaps N75SF not seem particularly attractive. More than € 1,000 for a multimedia notebook than the average?

Once you begin to study the list of equipment, it soon becomes apparent why Asus is demanding a higher than average amount of money. In addition to a Blu-Ray (CD and DVD burning) and eight GB of RAM, the laptop has a capacity of 17 750-inch HDD, 1500 GB, respectively.

The graphics card is not bad - Nvidia GeForce GT 555m scratches only in the premium segment. Of course, a new model of Intel Sandy Bridge processor is used. He is two (Core i5-2410M/2430M) or quad-core (Core i7-2630QM/2670QM). The screen has a resolution of 1600x900 or 1920x1080 pixels either. We broke the N75SF-V2G-TZ117V of about € 1200 (see chart at right) and testing.

Case
N75SF seems a bit bulky when closed. Form is not able to affect anyone socks off. With the exception of the circle of metal, it seems that we are considered normal. It is also sensitive to the shiny cover, which shows fingerprints very easily.

The notebook looks much better when it opens. Many of the key elements of the silver seems to refresh. We especially liked rubber palm rest. Although the Asus uses mostly plastic, N75SF does not feel cheap in any way.

Except for the reader projects there is little reason to complain about the production, either. The case has a good overall stability. Only the battery area (above) and the openings of the fan (bottom) can be a bit depressed. As in many other devices, the cover is the biggest weak point. The screen can obviously distorted by both hands. Another task: A crack is heard when heavy touchpad is used with an abnormally high pressure.

Asus could also improve the hinges. First of all, do not do their work quietly, lifts and a second base station during opening hours. In addition, the vibration of the surface also causes the screen to swing a lot. N75SF not often transport anyway. Nearly 3.7 pounds is not nice to carry around for a long time.

Connections
Interfaces
The connectivity is not exactly as expected. Although there are two points N75SF USB 3.0 ports, does not have an ExpressCard slot, FireWire, or eSATA.

Most of the interfaces is on the right. In addition to these USB 3.0 ports, two audio jacks (headphone / microphone), 4in1 card reader, VGA and HDMI and RJ45 Gigabit LAN. The right has taken over and Kensington lock. The left has only two USB 2.0 ports. Both the front and the doors are completely free.

Positioning interface is not as attractive to us. The user workspace on the right will be a limit to the number of external devices are connected.

Wireless communication
There are no surprises in the form of wireless interfaces. The module integrated wireless (Atheros AR9002WB-1NG) are capable of WLAN b / g / n and Bluetooth 3.0.

Software
Manufacturer of new it does in the form of software. The laptop is delayed by dozens of programs (some quite unnecessary) in its mode of delivery. This lengthens the boot time and overall response rate directly after the system startup. The laptop can not really take off after a delete action uncompromising.

Despite this, we would like to share some more. Although the technology "Splendid" ensures a living picture, "Power4Gear Hybrid" is synonymous with a specific energy range of areas. Large: Asus brings N75SF with Cyberlink Power DVD 10 Blu-Ray.

Supplies
The delivery is impressive. In addition, (120 watts) of power, and (6 cell) battery, Asus has a few cable fixers, the little mouse, manual, warranty card and drivers and DVD Tools. In addition, the buyer finds a subwoofer cylinder, which can be connected to a laptop properly.

Warranty
Asus offers a warranty of 24 months (12 months on the battery).

Input Devices
Keyboard
The keyboard has a mixed performance. With the exception of the F-row keys are fine companies (17x17 mm). However, the symbols are difficult to read from certain angles, due to poor signage. The combination of controls on the media and placed unfavorable fluid (left side of the main field) has often hit the wrong key at first.

In addition, pressure, and stroke could be more precisely defined. The layout is basically a condition in which some people may be annoyed by the fact that the "INS" and "DELETE" button on the same track. Otherwise, we will also talk about the cheap-sounding noise type. Unfortunately, there is no light installed.

Touchpad
The touchpad can score better. On the pro side, there are not only generous size (108x60 mm), but the rubber surface to ensure a comfortable capacity acceptable slip. The touchpad can earn more bonus points with gestures support, which can be implemented by two or three fingers, as usual. It greatly facilitates the work. Of course, there is a horizontal scroll bar and vertical on the edge.

In essence, the trackpad works quite reliably. Its accuracy is average. Large: Asus has included the disable option so that players do not need to input accidental curse during games. At the same time, we must mention the possibility of a negative approach unsatisfactory. The touchpad does not include or be separated by the color of the palm rest.

Display
Despite the GeForce GT 555m is designed for previous resolutions of the HD + (1600x900), the manufacturer installs a full HD in the model in question. Thanks to 1920x1080 pixels, the image is very sharp and detailed.

Two contiguous open windows are not a problem, unlike the lower resolutions, where the user is always busy with displacement. Meeting the demand for multimedia, Asus has opted for a ratio of 16:9. LED backlighting has become a standard in the interim.

We were pleasantly surprised at the rate specified. Fortunately not happy with it (if not common to the industry) Asus mill along the screen, but pampers the user with a high-end agent. The first thing that will probably hit the purchaser is a good light: An average of 289 cd/m2 is more than decent. It is even recommended to reduce the brightness for office work and internet.

The low value also deserves praise black (0.32 cd/m2). Unlike most other devices, the dark areas have a heavy cast iron. The contrast is too much competition in its place. 919:1 is an excellent rate (a laptop on average reached only 200:1).

Bright colors make a good impression. Games and movies have been made correctly. However, the screen quality is not enough for professional users. As shown in the following figures, the display has already been problems with the sRGB color space (on average, users can ignore this fact).

Despite the reflecting surface, the 17-inch laptop can also sometimes be used outside - thanks to its high brightness. However, outdoor use is not much fun after all, because the user is confronted with the thoughts of a typical anti-glare screen. A matte surface would have been at the expense of color saturation, but would have been much easier on the eyes. In general, the N75SF is mainly suitable for indoor use.

Viewing angles as the display properties. The larger the deviation is necessary to cause a deviation of the picture, especially horizontally. So, the notebook is also suitable for use on television a number of people.

Performance
Processor: Intel Core i7-2630QM
In order to adequately equip the user for the future, Asus installed a quad core processor in most N75SF models. The Core i7-2630QM, immensely popular among manufacturers, is based on Intel sandy bridge existing offering high performance and good performance. In addition to the 995 million transistors, the processor manufactured in 32 nm process contains a six-MB L3 cache (Core i5 series: three MB).

The clock of 2.0 GHz base no longer causes the storms of enthusiasm. With Turbo Boost function, however, the processor can be automatically overclocked up to 2.9 GHz when needed. Potential buyers to look more closely can be around to find a model with the new Core i7-2670QM, which can clock higher than 200 MHz, so from 2.2 to 3.1 GHz (about 7% faster).

But it does not matter if 2630QM or 2670QM: Both are quad core can handle eight threads at the same time, because the simulation of four virtual cores (Hyper Threading Technology). In addition, all Sandy Bridge processors are built in graphics chip, the HD 3000 graphics, in common. It allows laptop manufacturers to implement the switch graphic.

CPU performance
Core I7 2630QM is part of a performance level better than its dual-core Sandy Bridge CPU benchmark family. Core i5 2410M, often installed in notebooks, it was a bit lost in Cinebench Rendering Single-Core 64-bit (downloaded one of the core) (this HP Pavilion dv7-6101eg for example). I7 2630QM core is lead by almost 2%, and 4634-4551 points. The gap is growing massively multi-core rendering (download all households): 16836-9660 points in less than 74%.

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 555
DirectX 11 compatible video card with the Nvidia model. GeForce 555m is based on Fermi architecture ranged from very successful members of the family, the GeForce GT 555m (midrange) and the GTX 560M (for the high end) into the end zone.

1170000000 transistors, 144 unified shaders, 2048 MB DDR3 video memory and clock frequencies of 675, 900 and 1350 MHz (core / VRAM / shaders) to ensure that the latest games can usually play at high details. If the game does not work properly, is in part due to the memory bus is only 128 bits. Asus has had a better version of the 192-bit interface, such as Dell, for example (see the XPS 17 or the Alienware M14x).

Yet, the benefits are too good multimedia notebook average. Nvidia also boasts of features. PhysX technology is particularly attractive to players. As the name suggests, deals with the calculation of physical effects (it toll on the performance of supported games).

Nvidia Optimus
As more portable media, graphics N75SF also change automatically. NVIDIA Optimus is active or Intel GPU GeForce calculations according to the profile of current needs. Thus, the energy is actually stored on less demanding tasks, such as Office or Internet, which in turn is obviously beneficial to the life of the battery. Optimus works very reliable, manual intervention is not necessary. Nvidia control panel provides options for adjusting the response and multiple if necessary.

GPU performance
GeForce GT 555m had to fight against a direct competitor to AMDs Radeon HD 6770M (HP Pavilion dv6-6008eg) in the benchmark graphics. As expected, takes command of the Nvidia GPU with DirectX 11 based on the Unigine Heaven 2.1 benchmark.

Benefit of the whole adds up to 11% from 18.7 to 16.9 fps (1280x1024, high, normal tessellation). The situation is completely different in a very demanding 3DMark 11. While the Radeon HD 6770M GPU score reaches 1379 points in the test, the GeForce GT 555m to settle for a score less than 9% of 1258 points (1280x720, the performance preset).

HDD performance
Two 750 GB Samsung HDD (no RAID), called ST9750423AS drives and 5400 rpm, are under the hood. The system will check your hard drive and tools CrystalDiskMark HDTune. Sequential read and write has 82 to 87 MB / s is good but not extraordinary. Access to a speed of 17.8 ms, also proves to be average.

Strange: Same as his younger brother, the N55SF, holes in the transfer speed between heavily in (see screenshot above HDTune). Since both drives can be easily exchanged, there is nothing standing in the way of modernizing them (eg with a solid state drive).

System performance
N75SF overall performance is in the middle. PCMark Vantage 7339 points are on an equal footing with other devices with comparable speed and, like the Acer Aspire X6815 Medion 7750G Erazo o. Asus should have given a drive unit 17-inch solid state for a significantly higher score.

Power game
We took a closer look at gaming performance with three existing tracks.

F1 2011
Codemaster Formula 1 driver does not seem smooth with great detail. The racing game stutters with 20 frames per second when 1920x1080 pixels, four times the antialiasing and "Ultra" presets (DX11) are used. By contrast, 1366x768 pixels, high detail and twice the antialiasing has worked with 53 fps. We recommend using a more detailed level, four times the antialiasing and DirectX 9 in the native resolution.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution
The GeForce GT 555m also has difficulty playing with the mixture of the person / star, Deus Ex 3. A combination of high level of detail (DX11), MLAA, 16x AF 1920x1080 pixels and 19 fps lead to modest. To really enjoy the dark world of science fiction, it is necessary to reduce the resolution, the level of detail and / or quality improvements. For example, we ended up with 51 fps at 1366x768 pixels, medium details (DirectX9) in AA 4x and AF.

Fifa 12
A successful simulation of football, FIFA 12, there are no problems with GeForce GT 555m. Up to 1920x1080 pixels, high-detail, and four-time anti-aliasing do not carry a portable media player out of phase: 96.8 fps speaks for itself. With this result, N75SF between mid-range devices like the Acer Aspire 3830TG (GT 540M: 67 frames per second) and high-end machines, like Medion Erazer X6817 (GTX 560M: 143.7 fps).

Power Game Verdict
As our benchmarks show, the GeForce GT 555m often begin to stutter and Full HD resolution. Most of the details are not possible in graphic-intensive songs. The performance is adequate only for the level of average quality, in some cases. Instead, less demanding games like FIFA 12, can occur without a hitch with anti-aliasing.

Given the graphical output, we would consider to be perfect 1600x900 pixels. If the players can live with the reduction of resolution and detail where necessary, they will get a playmate correct anyway. Meanwhile, fans of AMD to a unit with its straight, GeForce 6750M, 6770M and 6850M.

Emissions
System Noise
We were pleasantly surprised by the noise. The case fan is not necessarily quieter than other laptops in slow motion, but the 17-inch laptop is relatively quiet under load. While many rivals multimedia exceed 40 dB (A) of the brand in play mode, this counter shows only 34.2 dB (A) for N75SF (distance: 15 cm). The laptop was not unpleasantly noisy, even at full load. 37.4 dB (A) is absolutely unacceptable. Hard drives are never intrusive whatsoever. Thus: Users sensitive to noise can definitely take N75SF. But what about heat?

Temperature
There is almost nothing to criticize on the basis of temperatures. All surfaces of the matter is entirely within an acceptable range in undemanding tasks (active GPU Intel): An average of 25 ° C in the top and bottom is a great rate. The action gets hot during the game, but not exceeding 40 ° C (keyboard area) is still acceptable. Good: The wrist support does not exceed 30 ° C.

Components naturally reach much higher temperatures. The graphics card and processor set to an acceptable level of 80 ° C in the stress test (Furmark and Prime95). It would be nice if Intel Core i7-2630QM no throttle at 800 MHz over the entire load. We also feel that the processor strangled in practice test kit because of the temporary stuttering. However, the model frame of reference and the results did not support this assumption. If the gas cell during the game, the tool "Throttlestop" might help.

Speakers
Asus announces the N75SF with a "unique sound" on its website. For this claim can not be classified as "marketing gibberish usual", the producer has chosen to work with the audio specialists Bang & Olufsen. The laptop comes with a subwoofer, even small ("SonicMaster", weighs about 150 grams) to make the perfect listening experience.

The result is a truly impressive standard laptop. And possible to believe that an external audio system is turned on, when you listen more closely. The sound is all natural, accurate and complete. And thanks to the subwoofer, you hear a good bass. However, the speakers are not exactly perfect.

Thus, the speakers usually intense fighting during the load, and it shows, more or less depending on the situation. We believe that the maximum volume could be slightly higher. But all in all, very few devices can be the sound quality of a candle N75SF (for example, the Dell XPS 17).

Battery Life
When Intel Graphics HD 3000 is in standby mode, power consumption remains within manageable limits: According to our metrics, 17-inch laptop uses only 20 watts. On the other hand, takes between 87 and 122 N75SF watts of plug load power - the interest rate on accepted performance available. 18-inch Acer Aspire 8951G (including the Core i7 and GeForce GT 2630QM 555m) consumed approximately the same test.

All expectations in the long battery life due to Optimus technology can be lost. Asus only has a 6 cell battery in the box. Is rather low, with 56 Wh (5200 mAh). The laptop just stops after an hour when the minimum energy saving options and maximum brightness are used during charging.

The run-time without significantly improving the Nvidia GPU. Although our test DVD took almost two hours, the laptop lasted about 2.5 hours wireless Internet surfing (maximum brightness and the average energy saving settings). The battery life could really impressed us standby with a minimum brightness and maximum energy saving options. Test drive the team published a good environment BatteryEater 4.5 hours.

Verdict
Despite the scratches N75SF only for a very good note, Asus has developed a good multimedia notebook. The great sound system is not the only unique selling point, but also high-end display. All types of media to freely develop their atmosphere - thats what we imagine a desktop replacement to be equal.

Asus has done all things well, and components. Intel Quad-core is a good amount of reserves and a lot of data can be stored on the hard drive (2x 750 GB!).

Nvidia GeForce GT 555m is also a good choice, but the compromises often have to make some graphical alternatives to the native resolution HD. At the same time, entertainment, fans were involved in the Blu-Ray drive. Large touch-pad, a generous amount of accessories (mouse and a subwoofer) and a low temperature, respectively, the noise of development are also strengths.

However, several points below counteract a better assessment. In addition to the relatively high weight and short battery life, N75SF suffers from a moderate range of interfaces. Many users expect an ExpressCard slot, a FireWire port and an eSATA port for € 1000. Not to mention the poorly planned disposal of existing interfaces.

The keyboard has also been in second grade, when a bad keyboard lettering and adversely positioned in the media bar, in particular bothered us. In addition, there is a stain-sensitive screen cover, and absolutely filled with the installation of Windows.

However, users who want a platform of diverse entertainment, with good picture and sound quality in Asus N75SF.
